Abstract

The method of grammar and translation is one of the methods used in education, especially since this method becomes the first method in teaching the Arabic language in particular. Thus, the first of this method is to translate Latin texts in the era of the Romans so that it passes to the Islamic era in translating texts from Latin into Arabic so that Islam becomes advanced in its civilization and culture in the field of science and knowledge. Hence, the Islamic boarding school in Indonesia use this method to understand Arabic books so that students and Muslims qualify in Arabic, whether in writing or reading. Thus, this method becomes the first method used by Islamic boarding school in Indonesia until the present era. Among this research, for the researcher to use in collecting data is the descriptive research based on the qualitative approach. In addition, the results are related to the appropriateness of this method in the Salafi or ancient Islamic institutes, because the following points are found in it: that the students will qualify in reading Arabic books and understand their reading. They memorize the rules related to the science of morphology and grammar, and they analyze all the words in the text, whether they are in syntactic, morphological, or grammatical status, and also that they express by evidence or systems what is related to the rules. It made it easy for them to read various Arabic books and get used to them.
