Abstract

Poverty is the most important social issues today. But the teachings of Islam as a whole have provided a solution for this problem. One of them is through philanthropy. Philanthropy or generosity is not new in Islamic history. Many verses of the Quran and Hadith that confirms the importance of charity to fellow humans for example in the form of Zakat, Sadaqah, and waqf. Waqf has become one of the instruments in an Islamic economy which has the aim to achieve prosperity of the world and the hereafter. But the paradigm of society in general are still fixated on the type of waqf in the immovable objects (fixed assets). In this modern era, cash waqf is popularized by Abdul Mannan, through the Social Investment Bank Limited (SIBL) in Bangladesh which publishes Cash Waqf Certificate (Cash Waqf Certificate) as an instrument of poverty alleviation in the country. The purpose of this study to find out ideas about Cash Waqf concept based on Abdul Mannan, and how is management applied to manage cash waqf so as to create prosperity. This study is a library research. The method used to collect datas is the methods of documentation. These data are analyzed by way of deductive and inductive followed by a description of the content analysis method. This method is used to analyze and draw conclusions about the thinking about the Waqf Cash Abdul Mannan and management are applied to manage the cash waqf. From the analysis conducted it can be concluded that the cash waqf according to Abdul Mannan has an important meaning, as a means of transferring savings to the rich entrepreneurs and community members in the fund religious activities, education and social development in Muslim countries. Cash Waqf also serves as a supplement to the funding of various social investment projects managed by Islamic banks. In addition, cash waqf can also serve as a strategio investment to eliminate poverty and backwardness in the field of handling the economy and in education, health, and research. While the cash waqf management is done through the issuance of Cash Waqf Certificate by the Social Investment Bank Limited (SIBL). Cash Waqf Certificate issued in different rates, allowing for all levels of society to participate in waqf, and eliminates the conventional paradigm that can only be made waqf for the rich only. Then the collected funds can be invested in businesses that are productive and produce, and may ultimately reduce poverty problems that occur.
