Abstract
Hypertension is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease and generally a major cause of heart failure, sudden death, stroke, coronary heart disease, and renal insufficiency. Nonpharmacological treatment for hypertension needs to be developed such as consuming honey. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of honey water on systolic and diastolic blood pressure in elderly at the Aisyiyah Nursing Home Surakarta. Method: This type of research is quantitative using a quasi-experimental approach with a pre-posttest control group design with 24 selected respondents by purposive sampling which were divided into 4 groups, namely O1 (70 gr honey), O2 (35 gr honey), K- (control with hypertension) and K + (control with normotensive). Results: There is a difference in average systolic blood pressure before and after giving honey for O1 with p-value 0.026 and O2 with p-value 0.010, and diastole blood pressure for O1 with p-value 0.030 and O2 with p-value 0.004. Systolic blood pressure in the statistical test showed that there was an effect of honey water on systolic blood pressure before and after intervention with p = 0.000 (p <0.05) as well as an effect of honey water on blood pressure diastole before and after intervention with p = 0.001 (p <0.05). Conclusion: There was a significant effect on the intervention of honey water with 35 and 70 gr honey dosage on systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the elderly.
