EFFECT OF SARANG SEMUT(Myrmecodia pendans) HERBAL DRINK WITH CINNAMON POWDER AGAINST BLOOD GLUCOSE IN SPRAGUE DAWLEY RATS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS

Abstract
Background: Diabetes is a chronic disease that still a major problem in the world of health. It also means that antioxidants are an effective strategy in reducing disease complications, especially from biological sources, one of which is the flavonoid group. One of the candidate plants that must be taken into account in its antioxidant ability is an sarang semut extract (Myrmecodia sp). And source antioxidants that can reduce diabetes is cinnamon. Objective:This study aims to analyze the effects of sarang semut herbal drinks and cinnamon powder on diabetes. Method: Experimental laboratory study with pre-post test designs with trial control. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups with five deep rat in each group. The treatment group included K(-), P1 given therapy with sarang semut herbal drink5,4 mg-cinnamon powder 0 mg, P2 was treated with sarang semut herbal drinks 4.05 mg-cinnamon powder 3.6 mg. P3 was treated with sarang semut herbal drinks 2.7 mg-cinnamon powder 7.2 mg and P4 were given treated with sarang semut herbal drink 1.35 mg-cinnamon powder 10.8 mg for 21 days. Blood glucose is measured using a glucometer with the GOD-PAP method. The results were analyzed using one the direction of the ANOVA test was followed by Post hoc Duncan to determine meaningful differences in blood glucose between the treatment groups. Result : Sarang semut (Myrmecodia sp)herbal drinkwith cinnamon powder have a significant effect on decreasing blood glucose before and after treatment (p = 0,000). The best formula for lowering blood glucose was a herbal drink sarang semut 100% (5.4 mg) and cinnamon powder 0%. Conclution: Sarang Semut herbal drink with cinnamon powder can decrease blood glucose levels. Keywords: blood glucose levels, cinnamon, diabetes, sarang semut
