Abstract
One of Indonesia’s greatest biological natural resources lies in plants that have a lot of benefits. The butterfly pea flower (Clitoria ternatea L.) is an example of a plant that lives in the tropics such as Indonesia, which without realizing it, has many benefits. The anthocyanins of this flower have benefits as natural coloring agents that can provide color pigments as a substitute for synthetic dyes used in lip balm cosmetic products on the market. Lip balm is an alternative to lip protection that is used to protect lips from drying out and cracking. The production of butterfly pea flower extract using 70% ethanol solvent maceration method resulted in a total yield of 10.96%. The purpose of this study was to determine the test results of the characteristics of the lip balm preparation of telang flower extract and to determine the concentration that can produce good color intensity. The method used in this research is a laboratory experiment and uses a completely randomized experimental design. The results of the application of butterfly pea flower extract dyes formulated with concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 6% produced organoleptic characteristics with semi-solid form, purple color, and smelled of essence bubble. The homogeneity of the preparations shows that the preparations are homogeneous, the resulting pH is still in a safe range, namely f1 6.13, f2, and f3 6.2. The resulting dispersion is the optimal dispersion with the results of f1 6.27, f2 6.12, and f3 5.92. The melting point produced in the preparation is in accordance with commercial products on the market and SNI 1996 with the results of f1 52.6, f2 54, and f3 54.6. The sensitivity test of lip balm preparation was carried out on 30 panelists with the results that they liked the f2 preparation with a concentration of 4%. Data analysis showed a significance value of > 0.05, which means that there was no significant difference in each addition of telang flower extract in lip balm preparations.
