Abstract

Africa is one of the continents where human rights issues are prevalent. Burundi is one of the countries with low levels of human rights, health and economic issues. This is due to the country's long history of civil war, genocide and discrimination. The African Union seeks to provide assistance to every country on the African continent that is experiencing disasters or problems in their country. This research seeks to analyze the role of the African Union in addressing human rights issues in the country of Burundi. This research uses a qualitative method, where the research sources come from scientific articles, journals, and books relevant to the research title. By using the concept of International Intervention to analyze the problems faced by the people of Burundi and also the concept of humanitarian assistance to analyze what role the African Union can play to help advance the welfare of the Burundian people after the civil war. This study discusses the humanitarian assistance provided to the people of Burundi and the intervention of international organizations into the conflict in the country which has resulted in significant human rights issues. The results of the study show that the African Union has a significant role in helping to overcome human rights problems that occur in the country of Burundi. In addition, the African Union also provides security assistance to victims of disasters and those affected by human rights violations.
