“THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BILATERAL COOPERATION BETWEEN INDONESIA AND QATAR IN INVESTMENT THROUGH BILATERAL INVESTMENT TREATIES (BIT) DURING PRESIDENT JOKO WIDODO’S TENURE
Abstract
Bilateral relations between Indonesia and Qatar have been established since 1976.
It is important for a country to build strong bilateral relations between the two countries
to achieve national interests. With the Bilateral Investment Treaties agreement being one
form of cooperation agreement between Indonesia and Qatar which aims to protect and
promote foreign investment, as well as handle investment, trade relations. The purpose of
this research is to see how the implementation of Bilateral Investment Treaties in trade and
investment activities in the period of President Joko Widodo in 2019-2023. The concepts
used in this research are bilateral cooperation, and national interest. The research method
applied in this research is a qualitative method which analyzes, explores and describes
a problem comprehensively, analyzes sentences and provides reports from informants in
detail. The findings of this research are that in the case of this study, a series of trade and
investment activities carried out by the two countries through the Bilateral Investment
Treaties agreement, made these two countries further strengthen their commitment to
continue to increase trade cooperation and channel investment funds in several sectors such
as tourism facilities, food infrastructure and the livestock industry which of course can
support SMEs with good products. This role also has implications for the national interests
of Indonesia and Qatar as countries that have important regional positions. Thus, the role
of G to G and B to B stakeholders helps the role of the president to meet the needs of the
government, as well as the people of both countries.
