Abstract

Reading is a primary skill that needs to be mastered in learning English. However, reading comprehension in the Basic Reading course for first-semester students of the English Language Teaching Department showed suboptimal learning outcomes. On the other hand, Quizalize is an online platform for training and assessment in class that is easily accessible and can create interactive quiz games that can be used in classroom learning. It is a quiz game application, for educational purposes. To improve learning outcomes, researchers tried to examine the effectiveness of Quizalize on student learning outcomes in reading comprehension. This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental active control group design. The population in this study were first semester students of the English Language Teaching Department at University of Darussalam Gontor, with a sample size of 60 students and using a probability sampling technique, which is simple random sampling. The method used in data collection is a test method equipped with several documentations. For data analysis, the researcher used the SPSS 22 formula. This study concludes that the use of Quizalize in reading comprehension is proven to be effective with the value of the Sig.(2.tailed) formula test of 0.000 < 0.05. Based on this conclusion, the researcher provides suggestions; (1) Quizalize is very suitable for use in learning Basic Reading courses for first-semester students of the English Language Teaching Department because students are trained to think critically and understand texts well. (2) Teachers are expected to be able to develop and try to apply Quizalize in reading comprehension, so that students can understad important information from each text.
