Abstract

Snouck Hurgronje as a Dutch orientalist who research the lives of the Aceh people. Previously Snouck was a theology student at Leiden University and received his doctorate in Leiden with his dissertation Het Mekkaansche Feet (Celebration of Mecca). His thoughts and reports on Aceh use ful for the Dutch government in controling Aceh falling in thw decades of war. Some of the well-known ideas are Islamic Politics, thoughts on Hajj and Zakat, and Counter to Pan-Islamism. Meanwhile, the people of Aceh are famous for their very high religiosity, marked by the law of jinayah and Aceh's designation “Serambi Mecca”. based on the academic problems described above, the researcher would like to answer the question: What is the Aceh view of Snouck Hurgronje? and what are the thoughts of Cristian Snouck Hurgronje and its influence on the religiosity of the Aceh people? This type of research is qualitative research using the descriptive analysis method. The approach used is an anthropological approach to religion using the theory of religiosity from Glock and Stark. This theory explains that there are 5 dimensions of religiosity or religiosity. The results of this study are that the Aceh views on the figure of Snouck Hurgronje can be divided into several opinions. Among them, first, Snouck is a meticulous, diligent, and clever researcher, second, Snouck is a figure who contributed to writing the history of Aceh, third, Snouck is a cuak and a common enemy of the Aceh people, he is a Dutch henchman whose blood kaphe is lawful to kill. While Snouck's thoughts include, first, the separation of religion and politics which is still happening to this day in of Aceh. Second, the strategy of weakening the spirit of prang sabil through the prohibition of hajj and misuse of the purpose of zakat. Snouck's thoughts have greatly influenced the religious side of the Aceh people. On the dimension of worship, Snouck personally does not act of interfere in this. While in the dimension of worship, Snouck interfered in several worships such as zakat and hajj and not with others. While the dimensions of Snouck's experience affect some, not totally. Two other dimensions, the intellectual and dimensions of religious knowledge and the application dimension have been influenced by Snouck Hugronje's thinking. This research still has many shortcomings, including the researcher has not examined the influence of Snouck Hurgronje's thinking directly in Aceh. It is hoped that further researchers, especially those who research about Snouck Hurgronje in Aceh, can develop this research as to whether Snouck Hurgronje's thoughts are still developing in the lives of Aceh people today. So that this research can contribute to the people of Aceh and academics.
