THE INFLUENCE OF FINANCIAL LITERACY ON THE USE OF DEBIT CARDS, E-WALLETS, AND ISLAMIC CONSUMPTION BEHAVIOR (Study at The Students of University of Darussalam Gontor Female Campus)
Abstract
The Student’s of University of Darussalam Gontor female campus are considered to
have obtained knowledge, Islamization studies, and adequate insights related to the law of
doing something excessive or can be said with waste (israf). When viewed from behavior,
some students have different characteristics in consuming. After field observations stated
that the student’s of UNIDA Gontor female campus has a high level of consumption,
because the lifestyle level of students who are more familiar with global trends, more
powerful facilities such as internet facilities that indirectly allow them to have e-wallets
and debit cards. The level of consumption behavior of the student UNIDA Gontor female
campus one of them can be proven by data on student packages that are increasing day
by day especially on certain days and months such as at the peak of online shopping Big
Sale promos. In making online shopping payments, students use debit cards, ShopeePay
and OVO as a means of payment transactions. The purpose of this study is to find out the
influence of financial literacy on the use of debit cards, e-wallets, and Islamic consumption
behavior at the University of Darussalam Gontor female campus. With the primary data
collection technique through a questionnaire-based survey the authors took 190 student
respondents of University of Darussalam Gontor female campus using the formula Hair
et al. To process author data using SmartPLS-SEM 3.0. The data showed that financial
literacy had a positive effect on debit card use and Islamic consumption behavior, while
financial literacy had a negative influence on the use of e-wallets. The study found that the
financial literacy possessed by the students of UNIDA Gontor female campus is quite high
because they are classified as non-consumptive because they prioritize needs over wants.
While the use of e-wallet is relatively low because in addition to not allowed to use mobile
phones, money budget constrant is limited. For this reason, more research is needed to add
other variables such as attitude, lifestyle, and so on to examine how these variables affect
Islamic consumption behavior.
