Maulida, Baiq Putri Ayu (2024) THE RELEVANCE OF THE CONCEPT OF GRATITUDE IN THE QUR'AN FOR REDUCING THE NEGATIVE IMPECT OF FOMO (THEMATIC APPROACH). S1 Undergraduate thesis, Universitas Darussalam Gontor.
Abstract
The concept of gratitude in the Qur'an teaches contentment, self-acceptance, and obedience to Allah SWT as a way of appreciating His blessings. This study explores the concept of gratitude in the Qur'an and its relevance in addressing the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), which arises from social media and peer groups. FOMO often triggers anxiety, envy and dissatisfaction. Gratitude offers an effective solution to deal with the negative impact of FOMO. So it is important to study how the concept of gratitude relates to efforts to handle the FOMO phenomenon. The purpose of this study is to understand the concept of gratitude in the Qur'an, and examine its relevance in overcoming the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) caused by social media and peer group pressure. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach and thematic interpretation (maudhu'i), by referring to primary references in the form of classical and modern tafsir books, as well as secondary references such as psychological literature. Through this approach, the concept of gratitude is analyzed in depth to understand its impact on contemporary psychological problems. The results show that gratitude has significant relevance in reducing the negative impact of FOMO. In Q.S Ibrahim: 7 has a significant impact in reducing envy, anxiety, and dissatisfaction that often arise from comparing oneself with others. In Q.S Al-Baqarah: 152 has a significant impact in reducing compulsive behavior to keep up to date with information or feel the need to follow trends. In Q.S Ad-Duha: 11 has a significant impact in reducing anxiety about what they are “missing out on,” and creates a deeper sense of happiness. In Q.S Luqman: 12 has a significant impact in reducing social pressure and feelings of dissatisfaction. These four verses as a whole provide spiritual guidance to overcome the anxiety, envy and social pressure that are at the core of the FOMO phenomenon. This study suggests a more in-depth study of the concept of gratitude as a basis for developing spiritual value-based psychological therapies to deal with modern challenges. The researcher realizes that there are still many shortcomings in this study, so further exploration is needed to explore the application of gratitude in various cultural and social contexts. Keywords: Gratitude, FOMO, Tafsir Thematic.
