Abstract

ABSTRACT THE CONCEPT OF TASAMUH IN THE QUR'AN ACCORDING TO SAYYID QUTHB AND ITS RELEVANCE IN THE FORMATION OF CIVIL SOCIETY Ninda Lestary Onykene 422021238143 In an era of globalization marked by cultural, religious and ethnic diversity, conflicts and misunderstandings often occur due to differences in views or values held by different groups of people. The concept of tasamuh offers a solution by emphasizing mutual respect without compromising the principles of Islamic faith. This study explores the concept of tasamuh (tolerance) in the Qur'an according to Sayyid Quthb's thought, which emphasizes the importance of maintaining a balance between respecting diversity and maintaining Islamic identity. In addition, its relevance in the formation of civil society is studied as an effort to create a harmonious, inclusive and fair social life in the midst of differences. The aim is to understand the meaning of tasamuh according to Sayyid Quthb and examine its application in creating a harmonious, just and balanced society. The author uses descriptive and analytical methods with a thematic interpretation approach that refers to Sayyid Quthb's Fī Ẓilāl al-Qur'ān. From results show that tasamuh is not just a social attitude, but a basic Islamic principle rooted in the values of Tawhid, Rahmah (compassion), 'Adl (justice), and Salam (safety). This principle supports the formation of a civil society that has been exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad SAW respecting diversity without sacrificing the Islamic faith. Sayyid Quthb also asserts that tasamuh is respect for individual beliefs without equalizing religions. Finally, from this simple research, the author recognizes that this research has not reached the stage of perfection but is an effort that still has many shortcomings. The author recommends strengthening the value of tasamuh through education and practical application in social policy to face the challenges of modern pluralism.
