Abstract

This research is motivated by the role of zakat as one of the essential instruments in the effort to reduce poverty and improve community welfare, which ultimately contributes to the improvement of the Human Development Index (HDI). The Uninhabitable House Program implemented by BAZNAS Klaten Regency is one form of zakat distribution aimed at improving the quality of life of mustahik through housing repairs. This research aims to understand the implementation of the Uninhabitable House Program by BAZNAS Klaten Regency in the distribution of Zakat funds and its relationship with the Human Development Index. The methodology used in this research is a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data was collected through interviews with two program implementers at BAZNAS Klaten, and implementers at the sub-district level, and supporting documentation. The purposive sampling technique was chosen to determine the most relevant respondents. The data analysis used is triangulation, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that the Uninhabitable House program significantly and positively impacts beneficiaries’ welfare and living standards. This program not only improves the physical condition of homes but also impacts the enhancement of health and living comfort, which ultimately supports the increase of HDI in the region. However, this research found challenges in the implementation of the program, including resource limitations and coordination between BAZNAS and the local government. The conclusion of this study shows that zakat distribution programs such as uninhabitable houses play an important role in improving the welfare and quality of life of mustahik and contribute positively to the HDI. The theoretical implications of this research indicate that the distribution of zakat is not only relevant in the spiritual aspect but also has enormous potential in social and economic development.
