Abstract

Nationalism is a form of devotion of a citizen to his country, and a form of citizen solidarity, especially for countries that have strong nationalism. However, the Jehovah's Witness is a Christian sect that refuses to devote itself to the state, because it is not from the teachings of the Bible. This research aims to further understand and provide a comprehensive understanding of the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses who refuse to devote themselves to the state, and their views on the state symbol, so that when the researcher has finished carrying out the research, he can understand the religious community through research that will be published. Thus, this research is expected to provide new insights for the study of theology and religious practice. The researcher used a qualitative type of research with the content analysis method as a technique in collecting data and also analyzing data related to the Jehovah's Witness's view of Nationalism. The approach used in examining the object is a theological approach, to see the influence of their religious practices from the application of religious teachings, especially teachings that contain elements of rejection. The results of this study explain that they have a unique view of nationalism, world government and state symbols. They also have other ways to be good citizens to their country while still applying their teachings in life. Overall, Jehovah's Witnesses see refusing to participate in Nationalism as a form of obedience and loyalty to Jehovah, and they view Nationalism as part of worldly politics which they choose not to engage in, due to their belief that the Kingdom of God is the only true government. Thus the author is also not free from mistakes in writing scientific work, so that requires criticism and suggestions from readers so that it can perfect the writing of this scientific work.
