Abstract

This research investigates how the Qur'an addresses emotional regulation and Its implications for both physical and spiritual well-being. The study also integrates psychophysiological theories, including the James-Lange and Cannon-Bard theories, to understand the interaction between emotional experiences and physiological responses. It explores the concept of Kazim (emotion restraint) as presented in the Qur'an and its correlation with human psychophysiology. The objective of this research is to bridge the gap between Islamic teachings and contemporary psychological theories, particularly in managing anger and its physiological implications. The background of the study highlights the significant impact of emotion restraint on contemporary psychological theories, such as increased heart rate, blood pressure, and changes in facial color, which can interfere with daily activities. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing descriptive methods to outline the study, followed by analytical methods to examine the correlation between the concept of Kazim and psychophysiology. As a type of library research, it adopts a thematic tafsir approach to analyze relevant Qur'anic verses. The findings indicate that the term "Kazim" in Surah An-Nahl: 58 and Az-Zukhruf: 17 has a correlation with psychophysiology, which is the interaction between psychological processes (emotions) and physiological responses simultaneously, aligning with the Cannon-Bard concept. And the terms "Kazim" in Surah Yusuf: 48 and "Kazimin" in Surah Gafir: 18 also have a correlation with psychophysiology, which is the psychological processes (emotions) preceded by physiological responses, aligning with the James-Lange concept. Meanwhile, the terms "Kazimin" (Surah Ali-Imran: 134) and "Makzum" (Surah Al-Qalam: 48) also have a correlation with psychophysiology, as both verses relate to a holistic approach to understanding human experiences. Nonetheless, this research has limitations in investigating the precise timing of physiological changes that occur when humans restrain emotions, as viewed through the lens of psychophysiology in the Qur'anic perspective. The researcher hopes that future studies will enhance this work, to enhance its comprehensiveness and scientific rigor. This research aspires to be a step forward in the Islamization of science knowledge.
