Abstract

The existence of nature as an interconnected unity forms an essential foundation for maintaining ecological balance. However, facts show that human activities continue to damage the environment, such as deforestation, pollution, and climate change. This reflects a lack of awareness regarding the relationship between humans and nature, exacerbated by an anthropocentric worldview. In the context of Islam, the principle of ecocentrism found in the Qur'an, as explained by Asy-Sya'rawi, offers a perspective to preserve environmental balance, support the SDGs, and address global environmental crises. The purpose of this study is to analyze the principle of ecocentrism in the Qur'an from the perspective of Asy-Sya'rawi, understand its influence on human behavior, and evaluate its relevance in supporting the achievement of SDG goals. In this study, the researcher uses a qualitative approach with the library research method, focusing on the analysis of Qur'anic verses related to the environment. Data collection techniques involve documentation, including the collection of various materials such as tafsīr texts, books, journals, and other documents relevant to the research theme. The methods used are descriptive to clearly explain the data and analytical methods to elaborate on the ecocentric principles in the Qur'an according to Asy-Sya'rawi and their relevance to global environmental issues. From this study, it is known that the principle of ecocentrism in the Qur'an from Ash-Shafi'rawi's perspective emphasizes mizan (balance) and amānah (responsibility), which requires humans to act as caliphs who protect nature fairly. This principle includes ecological justice, creation management, human and natural development, and respect for all elements of nature. Ecocentrism encourages a mindset and behavior in harmony with nature, prevents overexploitation, and supports the sustainability of ecosystems. Asy-Sya'rawi's interpretation also shows the relevance of ecocentrism in supporting the SDGs, especially environmental conservation. With a spiritual approach, this research offers a solution to the environmental crisis through ecological awareness based on Islamic values. Finally, from this study, the researcher realizes that this research is still far from perfection and has limitations. Therefore, researchers hope that future studies can be more in-depth, cover more verses, and consider more diverse theories and perspectives of interpretation. Thus, future research is expected to enrich understanding and make a more comprehensive contribution to the study of the interpretation of the Quran.
