THERELATIVISM ASPECT ON NASR HAMID ABU ZAYD THOUGHTS OF AL-QUR'AN
Abstract
The development of postmodern era in this century has had many impacts in many
fields for society. With the variety of products; relativism, liberalism, pluralism, nihilism, and
so forth, postmodernism began to affect people in a variety of domains, ranging from the realm,
of thought, social, historical, and even up to the academic realm. Relativism itself is understood
by relativize all thigs, there is no standard benchmark. When we say there is not something
really wrong, then it's the same as we said there is not anything right. Consequently, in
assessing and understanding everything, man is free to assess and talk, there is not anything
really wrong or right, and all returns to how impact, relativism, one understands that bring by
the spirit of postmodernism era began to be applied by some contemporary Islamic thinkers.
Relativism that by some Islamic thinkers applied to understand and re-read the teachings of
Islam that has been raw and final, ostensibly in order to adjust with the times now.
Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, is one of the contemporary Islamic thinkers were influenced by
the concept of relativism, for then he applied in his hermeneutic study of the Qur'an. In this
case, Abu Zayd argued that truth and meaning contained within the Qur'an is something
relative, he follows the historical development and social conditions surrounding culture, and therefore, any interpretation of the Qur'an will always follow the historical development. By his
deep meaning and interpretation relativism brought to the Qur'an, he must be understood by the
historical social circumstances today.
The simple study aims to reveal further aspects of the application of relativism in the
Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd Hermeneutics is used to study the Qur'an according the times the methodological in this study is to examine the historical method history and background of
Nasr Hamid life, descriptive method of analysis to examine aspects of his relativism
hermeneutic in his field of study, and methods of critical thinking to criticize him.
From this study, the researcher concludes there is relativism values in Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd hermeneutics when applied in the Qur'an which includes in his theory of the Qur'an as a
cultural product, the Qur'an as human language must be translated into human language, and
the Qur'an as a humanities text problem. The researcher also sees at the Qur'an consideration is
historical view who wants to bring the Qur'an to be read by all of people. The researcher also
found in his view which has been influenced by Western thought, particularly embracing hermeneutics of Heidegger and Gadamer. The researcher hopes in further research may discuss
and critique of other issues such as aspects of skepticism, humanism, which are emerging as the
hermeneutics development in the West.
