Abstract
Karl Marx is an influential world figures during the twentieth century to the present era. Не was a philosopher, economist, social, and recognized by the public as the founding father of communism. His thoughts on religion are also very very interesting due to influential until present era. Marx's most famous statement is the presumption that religion is a form of alienation and opium of the people. But Marx did not terminate in his criticism of religion, he further criticized what was Marx describes as the cause of the birth of the religion which he considered as alienation and the opium, which is a critique of society. According to Marx, the history of society is the history of class conflict, which due to a prolonged conflict endless so as to create the oppressors and the oppressed among the community. Thus it raises it raises the suffering of life of the lower class, the ss, the suffering due to society, and then they choose a shelter under the auspices of religion, which was promises heaven and other pleasures for those who follow his doctrine, so people feel pretty and satisfied with the situation. According to Karl Marx, religion and social class should be abolished and destroyed due to hinder of human productivity. Based on the phenomenon above, this study aimed to explaining Karl Marx's concept on religion and Karl Marx's concept society to avoid the assumption and the statement that religion is the opium and alienation, which plunged the people to atheism, and the concept of society which deems as the history of class conflict The concept of religion and society, according to Marx is the principal discussion of research. This study is a library research, while the approach in this study the writer used sociological approach and the Islamic worldview approach of Al-Attas to criticize the idea of Marx. Meanwhile, to analyze and illustrated his idea, used various methods such as descriptive, analytic, and critique methods, to make this research more deeply, radical, systematic, and universal, and achieve objective results. Islamic view was contrast to the Marx's view that regarded religion as the form of alienation. and the opium of the people. And also Marx's view on society was deems as the history of class conflict. Islam has explained the concept of religion as a whole obviously and did not thoughts human that religion is the opium of the people was should be abolished. Islam was refused the concept of religion and society as described by Marx, religion is the order of life and become the guidance of governing the life of mankind. Religion is not the product of social classes and human suffering as a refuge but religion is the soul as well as the central point of life. Somehow, this humble research has many lacks even since the language, discussion and content. Thus the writer suggests being further research concerning Marx's another idea, because he was a great man. From his many books will be found many issues related to religious issues and other problems. Therefore, this thesis hopefully could give a contribution for further discussion in concepts of religion.
