Veirina, Melani Nathania (2025) THE INFLUENCE OF AN ENGLISH POP-UP BOOK ON VOCABULARY MASTERY OF FIFTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF MADRASAH IBTIDAIYYAH (MI) NURUSSALAM MANTINGAN ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025. S1 Undergraduate thesis, Universitas Darussalam Gontor.
Abstract
Vocabulary mastery is one of the main elements in learning English. A comprehensive vocabulary is the key to helping students learn English. Good vocabulary develops core communication, learning, and thinking. Based on preliminary studies and available data, fifth-grade students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah (MI) Nurussalam Mantingan have relatively low scores and are less interested in English lessons. This is due to the lack of variety of learning media, which causes a lack of interest in learning students so that they quickly forget the material they learned. This study aims to measure the effect of using English Pop-up books on the vocabulary mastery of fifth-grade students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah (MI) Nurussalam Mantingan for the academic year 2024/2025. Using the quasi-experimental method, this study involved two groups: an experimental group that used Pop-up books as a learning medium and a control group that used a textbook. Data was obtained through pre-test and post-test, which was analyzed using descriptive analysis and hypothesis testing using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks U Test to determine the influence of English Pop-up book learning media because the data was not distributed normally. Data analysis using SPSS 25 for Windows. The results showed a significant increase in the experimental group, with the average pre-test score of 58.00 increasing to 87.40 in the post-test, compared to the control group which increased from 65.43 to 79.57. Furthermore, a hypothesis test was carried out using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test which obtained a value of Asymp Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.005 which indicates that there is a significant difference for the experimental class. These findings indicate that Pop-up book media effectively improve students' vocabulary mastery through engaging and interactive visual presentations. This study strengthens the view that innovative learning media can increase students' learning outcomes, especially in mastering foreign language vocabulary.
