Abstract

Consumptive behaviour is a problem that has sprung up a lot in society and has psychological and social impacts, for example because of thinking about worldly possessions that deny true happiness. As for social life, this consumptive behaviour can eliminate the sense of tolerance between others. The purpose of this research is to explore a deeper understanding of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani's concept of qana'ah and identify its potential application as an antithesis to the patterns of consumptive behaviour that are developing in the current era of globalisation. This research is a literature research where information obtained through literature both from books, journals and supporting articles which have an attachment to the issues raised. The approach used is a Sufism approach by emphasising the discussion of Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani's concept of qana'ah in everyday life and its relationship to consumptive behaviour. The results showed that Abdul Qadir Al-Jailani's concept of qana'ah balances the spiritual afterlife and material world. This makes it relevant and applicable to all people, not just Sufis. And not only plays a role in controlling material desires, but also has a positive impact in shaping a calmer, more stable, and grateful personality. By understanding and applying qana'ah, people are expected to reduce excessive consumptive behaviour, so as to create a balance between spiritual and material needs in everyday life. With all its limitations, the researcher hopes that this research can have a positive influence on the study of Sufism. The researcher recommends further research to examine more deeply the concept of qana'ah according to contemporary Sufism figures in preventing other global problems.
