Abstract

The formalization of diplomatic normalization between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel through the Abraham Accords in 2020 represents a pivotal transformation in the geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East. This agreement has elicited a range of responses, both supportive and oppositional, from Arab nations, particularly concerning their stance on the Palestinian cause. This study seeks to examine the geopolitical implications of UAE-Israel normalization on Palestine by employing Raymond Aron's theoretical framework. Utilizing a qualitative methodology with a geopolitical analysis approach, this research draws upon a comprehensive literature review and an evaluation of secondary sources, including news reports, government legal documents, scholarly articles, and academic publications. The findings indicate that the impact of normalization on Palestine is multifaceted. While the UAE continues to provide material support, such as through the Baynunah initiative, its pragmatic foreign policy in fostering closer ties with Israel reflects a shift in its commitment to Palestine. Furthermore, the normalization process has acted as a catalyst for broader geopolitical shifts in the Middle East, potentially influencing the decisions of other Arab states to pursue similar diplomatic engagements, thereby affecting Palestine’s position in international negotiations. This study contributes to the discourse on Middle Eastern geopolitics by applying Raymond Aron's theoretical perspective to assess the implications of normalization on a nation’s geopolitical positioning. Additionally, it offers insights into how diplomatic normalization can reshape regional power dynamics. Future research should further explore the responses of other Arab states to this development and its long-term consequences for the Palestinian issue.
