Abstract

Abstract Analyzing Students’ Motivation in Reading Class of Sixth Grade at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Female Campus 2 Galuh Gery Resty 422021133021 Motivation is important to support student, consisting of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The factors that influence the motivation of sixth grade students of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Female Campus 2 in reading classes, which use English language, are interesting to analyze, especially related to intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and the factors that influence them. The objectives of this research are: 1) To identify the motivation of sixth-grade students in reading class, 2) To analyze the factors that can affect student motivation in reading class. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques included observation to find out the condition of the reading class, in-depth interviews to reveal student motivation and the factors that influence it, and documentation to complete the data. In reading class, there are students' intrinsic motivation, are: a) desire to enrich vocabulary, b) respect for the teacher, c) understanding the importance of English) and students' extrinsic motivation, are: a) role of the teacher, b) environment, c) preparation for exams/study abroad. Factors that increase students' motivation: a) teacher, b) conducive environment, c) friends, d) reading a lot. Factors inhibiting students' motivation: a) lack of student preparation, b) lack of teacher preparation, c) lack of vocabulary, d) lack of confidence. Suggestions from this study: 1) Teachers develop interactive methods and media to increase student motivation in reading class, 2) Students increase intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and understand the factors that influence it, 3) Future researchers maximize preparation and research needs for better results.
