FORMULATION OF BODY CREAM WITH MANGO ARUM MANIS LEAVES EXTRACT (Mangifera indica L. val. arum manis) AS ANTIOXIDANTS AND YOGURT AS HUMECTANT

Abstract
In the modern era, skincare has become a crucial concern due to increasing pollution and ultraviolet exposure, which can cause skin damage. Antioxidants are needed to counteract harmful free radicals, and one natural source of antioxidants can be found in the extract of arum manis mango leaves (Mangifera indica L. var. arum manis). This study aims to determine the physical characteristics and antioxidant activity of a body cream containing arumanis mango leaves extract as an antioxidant and yogurt as a humectant. The body cream was formulated with four variations of arumanis mango leaves extract concentrations (0%, 1%, 2%, and 3%). Physical quality was evaluated through organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, and adhesion tests. The results showed that all body cream formulations include the organoleptic, homogenity, spreadability, and adhesion standards according to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). However, only the formulation with 3% extract (F4) met the pH standard (4.5–6.5), with a pH value of 6.25 based on SNI. The physical quality results were analyzed using SPSS One Way ANOVA, yielding p-values of 0.033 for pH, 0.622 for viscosity, 0.077 for adhesion, and 0.034 for spreadability. The One-Way ANOVA analysis showed significant results for the pH and adhesion tests, while the viscosity and adhesion tests were not significant. The highest antioxidant activity was obtained in F4, with an IC50 value of 52.34 ppm, indicating high antioxidant activity. In conclusion, arumanis mango leaves extract and yogurt in body cream formulations have the potential to be effective skincare products in protecting the skin from damage caused by free radicals.
