THE ROLE OF ENGLISH CLUB IN ENHANCING SPEAKING PRACTICE MOTIVATION OF SMAN 2 PONOROGO STUDENTS

Abstract
English Club is one of the extracurricular that is highly trusted in improving English skills. The focus of the English Club is on activities that improve English skills. Based on several studies, the use of English in all activities at the English Club can increase self-confidence and serve as motivation to improve Speaking skills. This study aims to analyze the role of English Club activities in improving students' speaking skills at SMAN 2 Ponorogo. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The participants of the study were students who actively participated in English Club activities at SMAN 2 Ponorogo, totaling 12 students. The results of the study indicated that English Club activities at SMAN 2 Ponorogo have a significant role in improving students' speaking skills based on the speaking result. There are various activities that provide opportunities for students to practice speaking English actively. There are Speech, Public Speaking, etc. However here are several inhibiting factors in improving speaking skills that occur in the English Club. This study concludes that several activities can enhance speaking skills, while some factors hinder speaking, one of which is laziness. To deal with this problem, the school should be able to provide a suitable schedule for this extracurricular. It is one of the factors of laziness also arises from the tight schedule.
