Abstract

Bad breath is a common health problem that can affect quality of life. One of the causes is Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The use of alcohol-based mouthwash can damage the oral mucosa if used long-term. Therefore, it is necessary to develop natural alternatives such as fast-disintegrating tablets (FDT) from cardamom seed extract (Amomum compactum Sol. Ex Maton). This research aims to evaluate the characteristics of FDT and its effectiveness in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in vitro. Tests were conducted by comparing the quality of granules and tablets with SNI standards and Pharmacopeia III. The quality test results of granules and tablets showed that they met the standards of SNI and Pharmacopeia Edition III. The bacterial inhibition test was carried out using the well method, and then the data were analyzed using SPSS 26 one-way ANOVA with a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05). The results showed that cardamom seed extract FDT effectively inhibited Staphylococcus aureus, with the largest inhibition diameter being 4.09 mm and the smallest of 2.86 mm. This FDT meets the quality standards and has antibacterial activity in a weak category, namely <5 mm.
