Abstract

Capsules are preparations with gelling agents using gelatin. The gelatin used as much as 80% comes from pigs. The use of pork gelatin is a problem for Muslims in terms of halal. So that an alternative to the use of gelatin is raw materials from plants, namely durian peel with a polymer combination of carrageenan. Durian peel has a weak gel amylopectin, so there is a need for additional carrageenan which has a sturdy gel content and stable gel properties. This research aims to make a halal capsule shell formulation combining amylopectin of durian peel and carrageenan E. cottoni. The capsule shell formulation is made in 5 formulations with a comparison of durian skin; carrageenan, which is 0.76%; 5% (F1), 0.78%; 5% (F2), 0.80%; 5% (F3), 0%; 5% (F4), 5%; 0% (F5). Evaluation tests include durian peel starch tests (moisture content test, virtual test, amylopectin content test, and ash content test) and and capsule shell preparation evaluation test (specification test, moisture content test, and crushing time test). Data analysis uses a quantitative descriptive method by comparing it with the standard of PT. Kapsulindo Nusantara and Indonesia Pharmacopoeia Edition III. The results of the study showed that the test results of the capsule shell specification test met the standards of PT. Kapsulindo Nusantara. The results of the moisture content test are higher than the standard of PT. Kapsulindo Nusantara is > 60%, while the results of the destruction time test meet the standards of the Pharmacopoeia Indonesia Edition III, which is < 30 minutes. The formulation that most meets the standards is the combination of durian peel starch 0. 80% and 5% carrageenan which has a capsule length of 22 mm, a body diameter of 7,259, a body cap of 7,469, a thickness of 18.23 mm, a moisture content of 111%, and a crushing time of 22 minutes and 12 seconds.
