Whether in terms of race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion, diversity is a natural aspect of society. The existing diversity can lead to division and hostility within society, especially due to the fanaticism of different groups. However, when approached correctly, it can create a harmonious living environment. One of the characters described in the Quran to discourage fanaticism is “Ḥanīf.” Although this term is often associated with the Millah Ibrahim, its scope is not limited to religious diversity alone. Therefore, the author feels the need to study the concept of “Ḥanīf” to promote harmony in diversity. This research aims to analyze the concept of Ḥanīf in the Al-Qur’an, by knowing the meanings of hanif in the Al-Qur’an. Also, this research aims to analyze the relationship between the Ḥanīf concept in the Al-Qur’an and the principle of diversity, so that the hanif concept can be used as a reference in dealing with existing diversity. The research is based on literature and utilizes a descriptive analytical method to provide a clear and comprehensive depiction. The approach used in this research is a thematic Tafsīr approach by collecting verses related to the term “Ḥanīf” in the Quran. Then analyze the meaning of these verses and relate them to the principles of diversity. The results of this research indicate that “Ḥanīf” in the Quran, according to some scholars, can be interpreted as 1) steadfastness in upholding God’s truth, 2) sincerity in worshiping solely Allah, 3) Islām, and 4) Fiṭrah. Regarding its relationship with the principle of Diversity, “Ḥanīf” is seen as a key concept for achieving unity within diversity, and it can serve as a pivotal concept in interacting with a diverse society. Researchers realize that this research is far from perfect. For this reason, constructive criticism and suggestions are highly expected to make research better. To further enhance the study of the term “Ḥanīf” in the Quran, the author suggests future research using linguistic approaches or focusing on specific figures.
