Hertini, Lisviyana Tien (2024) FORMULATION OF SEMBUNG (Blumea balsamifera L DC) LEAF EXTRACT TABLETS WITH VARIATION OF GELATIN CONCENTRATION AS A BINDING AGENT. S1 Undergraduate thesis, Universitas Darussalam Gontor.
Abstract
Sembung leaf (Blumea balsamifera L DC ) contains flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, phenylpropanoids, and sterols, which exhibit pharmacological effects as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anticancer, and antioxidant. Sembung leaf extract can be formulated into tablet preparations to facilitate use. Binder is one of the most important additives used in tablet preparations because it affects compatibility. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of varying the concentration of gelatin as a binder on the preparation of leaf extract tablets. This experimental research by extracting the constipated leaves using the maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent. The extract was formulated into tablet containing 40 Mg of the extract and variations in gelatin concentration of 1%, 3%, and 5% using the wet granulation method. The granule quality evaluation test includes flow properties, angle of repose, compressibility, and moisture content, while the tablet quality test includes weight uniformity test, tablet size uniformity test, tablet hardness test, tablet friability test, and disintegration time test. The effect of gelatin concentration variation on the evaluation results of tablets was analyzed using oneway ANOVA with SPSS 26.0 with a significance level of 95%. The results of the evaluation of the physical quality of tablet preparations include organoleptic tests, weight uniformity, size uniformity, hardness, and friability, in formulas I, II, and III that meet the standards of the Indonesian Pharmacopoeia V edition. The results of the disintegration time test in formulas I and II meet the standards, while formulas III do not meet the standards. Variations in the concentration of gelatin binder 1%, 3%, and 5% have an effect on tablet disintegration time (p <0.05). But not affect tablet weight uniformity, tablet size uniformity, tablet hardness, or tablet friability (p>0.05). Keywords: mung leaf, tablets extrac, gelatin variation.
