Abstract
In society, culture plays important role to keep the indentity of a region and, the particular group. The good intercultural communication ability is needed. Basically, because there is a communication within a culture and there is a culture within a communication, and both of it can not be separated. The students of University of Darussalam Gontor (UNIDA Gontor) has their own speech code that formed because of the students using Arabic or English in their daily interaction. The language and speech code in UNIDA Gontor are not only used by PMDG’s student alumni, but also used by the regular high school alumni which defined as the Non-KMI which who can not speak Arabic. Not many differences between Speech code of UNIDA Gontor and PMDG’s, because the majority of students is PMDG’s Students alumni. Finally, the speech code can be accepted by the NonKMI students as the subject in this research, even through by adaptation. The adaptation aimed to build a relation with surroundings and can and interacting with them easily. This research used a qualitative descriptive as a result that the subjects have been through 4 stages of cultural adaptation; Honeymoon, frustration, readjustment, and resolution. The resolution stage as a final stage of cultural adaptation. Meanwhile the subject assimilated, integrate, and combined the related mode as their speech code adaptation.
