Abstract

Nutritional problems among adolescents, including eating behavior disorders, are still relatively high. Environmental factors, such as the distinction between urban and rural areas, can affect adolescents' eating behavior, eating habits, and nutritional knowledge. This study aims to determine differences in eating behavior, eating habits, and nutritional knowledge among adolescent girls in urban and rural areas. This study was a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 47 respondents from each region, namely SMPN 5 Ngawi (rural) and SMPN 1 Kendal (urban), who were selected using purposive sampling with inclusion criteria: adolescent girls aged 13-18 years at SMPN 5 Ngawi and SMPN 1 Kendal who were willing to participate in the study and the exclusion criteria: adolescents who were on a diet, had eating disorders, or sick. The research variables were eating behavior measured using the Dutch Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (DEBQ), eating habits data using the Adolescent Food Habits Checklist (AFHC) questionnaire, and nutritional knowledge questionnaire. Data was analyzed by the Independent T-test and Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that emotional eating was more prevalent among rural adolescents (61.7%), external eating among urban adolescent girls (68.1%), and restrained eating among urban adolescents (53.2%). The majority of rural adolescents had good eating habits (63.8%), while the majority of urban adolescents had good nutritional knowledge (78.7%). The results of the bivariate analysis showed significant differences in external eating (p=0.033), eating habits (p=0.034), and nutritional knowledge (p=0.000) between urban and rural adolescent girls, while emotional eating (p=0.193) and restraint eating (p=0.868) showed no difference. In conclusion, there were differences in external eating, eating habits, and nutritional knowledge between urban and rural adolescent girls, but there was no in emotional eating and restraint eating.
