Jala Pramita, Dinda Ayu Cahyaningrum (2025) THE INFLUENCE OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND CONSUMER MOTIVATION ON BOYCOTT PRODUCTS WITH FATWA MUI NO. 83 OF 2023 AS INTERVENING VARIABLE (STUDY ON GENERATION Z IN INDONESIA). S1 Undergraduate thesis, Universitas Darussalam Gontor.
Abstract
In the current era of globalization, one of the issues that attracts global attention is the conflict between Palestine and Israel. The conflict was triggered because of a territorial dispute, the longest-lasting conflict in the Middle East region. When this conflict flared up again, the Indonesian people took decisions and actions to boycott Israeli-affiliated products. When this boycott took place, it was known that the Indonesian Ulama Council issued a MUI Fatwa number 83 of 2023 concerning the law on support for the Palestinian people. The MUI Fatwa number 83 of 2023 has highlighted the importance of Muslim awareness in choosing products that follow Sharia principles. This study aims to analyze the influence of the environment and consumer motivation on the decision to boycott products through MUI Fatwa number 83 of 2023. The environment is measured through family, friends, and community factors, while consumer motivation is measured from religious, moral, and ethical aspects. The decision to boycott a product includes understanding the boycott, purchasing choices, and knowing what products are being boycotted. This study uses a quantitative method with primary data obtained through the distribution of questionnaires to 100 Generation Z respondents in Indonesia, using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was done using the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method using SmartPLS software version 4.0. The results of this study show that the environment and consumer motivation have a positive and significant influence on the decision to boycott products, with p-values of 0,038 and 0,000, respectively, which are smaller than 0,05. In addition, MUI Fatwa number 83 of 2023 mediates the environment and consumer motivation against the decision to boycott products. The influence of the environment on the decision to boycott products through MUI Fatwa number 83 of 2023 has proven positive and significant, with a p-value of 0,013, more minor than 0,05. Meanwhile, consumer motivation to boycott products through MUI Fatwa number 83 of 2023 does not show a positive and statistically significant influence, with a p-value of 0,097, more remarkable than 0,05 and a t-statistic of 1,67 smaller than 1,96. This research provides implications that related parties such as religious organizations and the community need to continue to increase awareness of the importance of consumption decisions in their daily lives.
