Afkarina, Olivia (2025) THE EXISTENCE OF THE EVANGELISTIC MOVEMENT ACCORDING TO THE VIEW OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES. S1 Undergraduate thesis, Universitas Darussalam Gontor.
Abstract
Evangelism is an essential part of the Christian tradition, including for Jehovah's Witnesses, who view it as a direct command from God and Jesus Christ. As a religious minority, they prioritize preaching the good news of God's Kingdom through distinctive methods, such as house-to-house visits, distributing literature, public witnessing, and the use of technology. This difference in evangelistic methods is often the subject of debate between fellow Christian groups. This research aims to understand the existence of the evangelistic movement according to the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses. In addition, this study also analyzes the methods they use in conducting the evangelistic movement, which is an obligation for every Jehovah's Witness follower according to the teachings of the Bible. As such, this study provides an overview of the evangelistic movement of Jehovah's Witnesses and the methods they use in evangelizing. This research uses a type of qualitative research with a form of library research. A theological approach was used to explain the meaning of evangelism for Jehovah's Witnesses and the methods used in their evangelism. In addition, the descriptive analysis method is used to describe and analyze the existence of the evangelistic movement according to Jehovah's Witnesses and the methods used in their evangelistic activities. So the stages of this research include identifying sources, collecting data, analyzing data, and finally drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that: 1) the existence of evangelism of Jehovah's Witnesses is greatly influenced by the doctrine of God's Kingdom, which is at the heart of their message, as well as the dedication of its members in carrying out their evangelistic mission. They emphasized the voluntary dissemination of the teachings without material rewards. 2) The methods used are door-to-door service, literature distribution, testimony in public places, and the use of digital technology, which has succeeded in reaching various groups of people. In addition, this evangelistic movement is motivated by love for God and fellow human beings and the belief that the good news is essential for human salvation. This research is expected to contribute to the scientific study of religious studies, especially regarding the evangelistic movement according to Jehovah's Witnesses and the evangelistic methods applied by them so that they continue to exist today. In addition, this study is expected to be a relevant source of reference for those who are interested in this study research.
