Syahida, Abid Khusnus
Abstract
One way to meet life’s needs is through business, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad. In addition to spreading the teachings of Islam, he was also known as a trustworthy and honest businessman who avoided gharar, refrained from hoarding goods, and avoided deceit in business transactions. Today, the practice of renting goods or services has become increasingly common, especially in the documentation equipment rental sector. This service is highly significant because the moments or events of an occasion cannot be repeated. Various types of customers have emerged, ranging from those who only want to rent the necessary equipment to those who hire a full crew or team to document large-scale events. However, this industry faces several issues that violate the principles of ‘aqd Ijarah, one of which is the improper use of documentation tools. Customers from diverse backgrounds and beliefs require Muslims in business to uphold ethical practices in accordance with the teachings our Prophet. Like documenting events featuring alcohol consumption or religious ceremonies that contradict Islamic principles raises ethical concerns. This study aims to examine the mechanisms of these services using a qualitative approach, utilizing primary and secondary data obtained from interviews with relevant sources. Additionally, data collection through observation and documentation will be conducted to strengthen answers to the research questions. The study concludes that such activities are permissible as long as the primary intention is to earn a living and no other objectives are involved. However, business owners should carefully consider and evaluate clients whose requests do not align with Islamic principles and teachings.
