DEVELOPMENT OF HALAL PRODUCT BUSINESS RESEARCH: BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS
Abstract
The halal product business continues to grow in line with increasing consumer awareness of the importance of products that comply with Islamic principles. As one of the largest markets for halal products, Indonesia plays a strategic role in developing the global halal business. Along with the rising interest in halal business, research in this field has also expanded. However, further analysis is needed to understand existing research trends, including publication distribution, collaboration patterns, and influential research contributions. This study aims to: Analyze trends in halal business research publications from a bibliometric perspective and identify researcher collaboration patterns, countries, and journals or publication sources with the highest citations and the most influential relationships in halal business research. This study employs bibliometric analysis with a qualitative approac to achieve these objectives. Data were obtained from the Scopus, Emerald, and Google Scholar databases and analyzed using VOSviewer to map collaboration patterns among researchers and countries, as well as to identify the most cited journals and the most influential research connections. The findings indicate that publications related to halal business have experienced rapid growth since 2009, with a significant increase in 2023, reaching 73 publications. Jan Mei Soon is the most productive researcher with six publications, followed by William E. Halal and Abid Haleem. In terms of country collaboration, Indonesia has the highest number of publications (98 articles), followed by the United States and the United Kingdom. Additionally, the Journal of Islamic Marketing is the most frequent publisher of halal business-related articles (36 publications). Keyword mapping analysis using VOSviewer shows that the most frequently appearing term is "business," along with the interrelation of halal business with other fields such as economics, marketing, and tourism. This study provides insights into the development of halal business research and serves as a reference for academics, industry players, and policymakers in developing a more comprehensive halal ecosystem.
