This research discusses the thought of Francis X. Clooney's thoughts on comparative theology, an approach that seeks to understand different religious traditions through the depth study of sacred texts and religious practices. Clooney developed methods of “deep learning” and “scriptural reasoning” which emphasize deep engagement with other religious texts without losing one's own faith identity. The aims of this research is to reveal that Clooney's approach has a transformational impact both intellectually and spiritually, broadening theological insights and building a more authentic interfaith dialogue. This qualitative researches employs a philosophical approach and utilizes library research methodology, the primary data was obtained from various literatures such as books, journals, and relevant articles. This research method aims to analyze and understand the object of research through an in-depth literature review. According to Clooney “deep learning” in comparative theology involves a through exploration of other religious traditions through direct engagement with sacred texts and spiritual practices. Scriptural Reasoning, originally developed by Jewish scholars in Textual Reasoning, later became an interfaith approach involving Jewish, Christian and Islamic sacred texts. Clooney adapted this method in a comparative study between Hinduism and Catholicism. However, this approach is not free from criticism, especially regarding Christian bias in interpretation and the lack of practical application for the wider community. Nevertheless, Clooney's works remains relevant in responding to the complexity of religious diversity in the era of globalization. The researcher acknowledges that this research still has shortcomings that need to be improved. Therefore, the author proposes several suggestions for further research so that studies on this theme can continue to be developed. First, it is recommended to expand the evaluation of the themes discussed. Second, more in-depth research for the relevance of Clooney's thoughts in the context of religious pluarism in Indonesia.
