Abstract
Al-Aqsa The Al-Aqsa Storm Operation conducted by Hamas on October 7, 2023, garnered significant attention from numerous worldwide media outlets, including Indonesian online platforms such as Republika.co.id and Kompas.com. Divergent perspectives and media interests frequently shape the framing and public perception of a dispute. This research seeks to examine the framing employed by media sources in their coverage of the Al-Aqsa Storm Operation. This study employs a qualitative methodology utilising a descriptive-comparative approach. The employed analytical method is Robert N. Entman's Framing model, comprising four principal components: problem characterisation, cause identification, moral evaluation, and solution proposal. The research comprises eleven news pieces, six from Republika.co.id and five from Kompas.com, released within one week following the Al-Aqsa Storm Operation. Data were gathered by observational and documenting methods. The research findings indicate that Republika.co.id characterises the Al-Aqsa Storm Operation as an expression of Palestinian resistance to Israeli oppression, employing language that emphasises the struggle and suffering of the Palestinian populace. Simultaneously, Kompas.com emphasises the intensification of the conflict and its overarching effects, concentrating on the humanitarian dimensions affecting both parties. The disparities in framing are apparent in the selection of titles, source citations, and the ethical viewpoints employed by each media organisation. This research concludes that media framing is significantly shaped by editorial direction and the ideals it espouses. Republika seems to be more supportive of the Palestinian cause, whilst Kompas endeavours to keep a neutral stance with an emphasis on humanitarian considerations. This research recommends that the study serve as a reference for Communication Science students, particularly at Universitas Darussalam Gontor, interested in doing media framing analyses on international topics. Secondly, media platforms like Republika.co.id and Kompas.com are anticipated to deliver news that prioritises truth and factual accuracy. Third, readers are advised to read the news thoroughly and critically to avoid being trapped by Framing that can create incorrect perceptions.
