The Influence of Islamic Comic About Healthy Breakfast on The Knowledge and Attitudes of Students

Abstract
Background: The habit of not having healthy breakfast in elementary school-age children can lead to difficulties in receiving lessons, interfering with short-term memory and affecting the risk of obesity. Media and methods are one of the determinants of successful delivery of nutrition education. A good media provides a transfer of knowledge and values. The Islamic comic media as innovations can be used to provide information about healthy breakfast. Method: This study was a quasi-experimental type with pre-post test control group design. The number of subjects taken by simple random sampling method as many as 96 students divided into three groups (@n= 32), group A was given Islamic comic media about healthy breakfast, and group B was given Islamic comic strip media about healthy breakfast, and group C as control of the group. Nutrition knowledge and attitudes level were obtained from questionnaires. The influence of nutritional education media on increasing knowledge and attitudes in the three groups was analyzed by the Wilcoxon test and continued with the Mann Whitney test. Results: Distribution of categories of respondents’ level of knowledge and attitudes increased significantly after the provision of Islamic media comics and comic strips regarding healthy breakfast. There a significantly increased knowledge level of the Islamic comic and comic strip media group (p=0،000). There a significantly increased attitude level in both media group (p=0،000). Conclusion: There is an influence of Islamic comic and a comic strip about healthy breakfast on the knowledge and attitudes of Islamic elementary school students.
