Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a significant public health problem in Indonesia, including in Islamic boarding schools. Overcrowding, inadequate ventilation, and lack of knowledge about TB increase the risk of transmission. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of visual and audio-visual media in improving students knowledge on TB prevention. Using a quasi-experimental design, this study involved 153 students who were divided into a control group and two intervention groups. The education used leaflets for visual media and animated videos for audio-visual media. Wilcoxon test results showed that education significantly improved knowledge in both intervention groups. The comparison of visual media and audio-visual media using the Mann-Whitney test resulted in p value=0.052, indicating no significant difference between visual and audio-visual media. Education based on visual media and audio-visual media is effective in increasing students knowledge about TB.
