The term forgiveness is carries the meaning of obtaining something, referring to both requesting and granting forgiveness with the intent of acquiring something from the other party. In a religious context, forgiveness also signifies absolution of sins, the removal of punishment, and the act of pardoning mistakes. However, a debate arises when some scholars equate forgiveness with the concept of sincerity or letting go of grievances. Therefore, this study an objective to examine the concept of forgiveness in the Qur’an from the perspective of Wahbah al-Zuḥaylī in Tafsīr al-Munīr, which is known for its Sufi oriented approach. This research adopts a thematic approach to analyzing Qur’anic verses related to forgiveness. It is a library research study, with Tafsīr al-Munīr serving as the primary data source. The study employs a descriptive method to explain the interpretation of the relevant verses in detail, and an analytical method to break down the data for clearer comprehension. The findings reveal that, according to Wahbah al-Zuḥaylī , the concept of forgiveness in the Qur’an extends beyond mere absolution of mistakes; it also embodies compassion and spiritual closeness to Allah. His interpretation highlights that forgiveness in Islam is transformative, fostering positive change for both individuals and society. Furthermore, the study identifies a strong correlation between the Qur’anic concept of forgiveness and Sufi values, such as patience, sincerity, and benevolence. However, this study is far from perfect and has certain limitations in its scope and depth of analysis. Further research is needed to explore this topic more comprehensively, incorporating different exegetical perspectives and contemporary interpretations. The researcher hopes that this research can contributes to the treasures of Islamic scholarship, especially in understanding the concept of forgiveness in the Qur'an, and become a reference for further research in the future for Muslims and all mankind.
