Abstract

THE WAGE OF PALM OIL WORKERS ACCORDING TO DISTRICT MINIMUM WAGE AND ISLAMIC ECONOMY (Case Study Bukit Makmur Village, Sub-Segah, Berau District, East Kalimantan 2017). Ruchhima 34.3.2.1551 The increasing request of crude palm oil makes many businessman interested in opening a palm plantation. Indonesia is a country that has a high potential for oil palm plantations because it has a good climate and a large number of workers who can be paid cheaply. It results in number of workers who experience discrimination due to low wage received. This research aims to examine oil palm workers in Bukit Makmur Village Berau district who still get their wages below the Minimum wage of District Berau standards in 2017. In this thesis qualitative descriptive method was used to know the waging system applied by every owner of palm plantations. The primary data sources used were the forms of interview with workers and owner of palm plantations, some books of employment law and waging in Islamic or ujrah. The secondary data were obtained from the journal and the internet that discuss the minimum wage applied to oil workers and waging system according to the Islamic economy. The results of this research were the two waging system applied by the palm plantations owners that was a system of units of time on a daily basis or monthly basis and wholesale system. From 25 plantations taken 5 plantations sample or 20% from total palm plantations, 8% or 2 palm plantations owners had provided wages to their workers according to the standard Minimu Wage District Berau in 2017 and the other had not met the standard. But according to Islamic Economics palm plantations owners had applied the terms of work agreement (Ijarah) such as to determine wages before work and gave workers rights in accordance with the agreement.
