IMPLEMENTATION OF “POWTOON-BASED LEARNING MEDIA” TO IMPROVE LEARNING OUTCOMES IN ISLAMIC HISTORY FOR 6-A GRADE AT PESANTREN ANAK SHOLEH BAITUL QUR’AN GONTOR
Abstract
In the classroom learning process, teachers and students are two inseparable components. a teacher plays the role of a knowledge provider, while a student acts as a knowledge recipient. The interaction between teachers and students is expected to facilitate the achievement of learning objectives. This classroom action research was motivated by the suboptimal academic performance of 6th-grade students at Pesantren Anak Sholeh Ponorogo in the Islamic History subject. The results showed that 14 out of 22 students, equivalent to 63.63%, had not yet achieved the minimum passing grade. This issue, particularly in terms of student learning outcomes, was due to a lack of student activeness during the learning process and several factors, including the teacher's lack of innovation by relying solely on the lecture method without utilizing learning media. As a result, students quickly became bored and uninterested, leading to less effective learning. This problem was addressed through the implementation of Powtoon-based learning media, which can help students better understand lessons and make learning more engaging when applied in practice.
The objectives of this research are: 1) to determine the improvement in student activeness using Powtoon-based learning media in the Islamic History subject for 6th-grade students at Pesantren Anak Sholeh (PAS), and 2) to determine the improvement in student learning outcomes using Powtoon-based learning media in the Islamic History subject for 6th-grade students at Pesantren Anak Sholeh (PAS).
This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). the researcher acts as the teacher and is assisted by two observers. The research consists of two cycles: the first and second, which include the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques used in this study include observation, tests, and documentation.
The results of this study indicate that: 1) The implementation of POWTOON-based learning media can increase student activeness. Student activeness in the first cycle reached 58% and increased to 88% in the second cycle. 2) The implementation of POWTOON-based learning media can improve student learning outcomes. In the first cycle, the number of students who achieved the learning objectives was 8 out of 22 students, or 36.36%, with an average score of 43. In the second cycle, all 22 students achieved the learning objectives, reaching 100% with an average score of 80. The improvement between the first and second cycles was 63.63%.
Based on the discussion above, the researcher provides the following suggestions: 1) For teachers to innovate in the teaching and learning process to maximize the effectiveness of learning, 2) For students to always stay motivated in following all learning processes so that their academic performance can be satisfactory, 3) For future researchers who wish to implement POWTOON-based learning media, they should further develop videos based on the content in the Tarikh Islam book so that teachers can optimize their teaching. 4) For the school to be open and supportive of all forms of innovation from researchers and to create a more conducive learning environment so that students remain enthusiastic about learning.
