Sholeh, Aisya (2025) THE EFFECT OF LISTENING TO THE QUR'AN COMBINED WITH ANTIHYPERTENSION THERAPY ON REDUCING BLOOD PRESSURE AND IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS. S1 Undergraduate thesis, UNIVERSITAS DARUSSALAM GONTOR.
Abstract
Hypertension Hypertension is a condition characterized by elevated blood pressure, which can reduce patients' quality of life. Non-pharmacological therapies, such as listening to the Qur’an, are believed to enhance the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs in lowering blood pressure and improving quality of life due to their relaxing effects, which help regulate blood pressure. The calming effect of Qur’anic recitations can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, reduce stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, and increase the production of endorphins, which help decrease vascular tension and improve blood circulation. This study used a quasi-experimental design with three treatment groups: Group A (antihypertensive therapy without listening to the Qur’an), Group B (antihypertensive therapy combined with listening to the Qur’an once daily), and Group C (antihypertensive therapy combined with listening to the Qur’an twice daily). Blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer, while quality of life was assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using the Paired T-Test and General Linear Model (GLM) with SPSS 16.0 at a 95% significance level. The findings indicate that the combination of antihypertensive drugs and listening to the Qur’an has a positive impact on lowering blood pressure and improving the quality of life of hypertensive patients. The group that listened to the Qur’an experienced an average systolic blood pressure reduction of 11.7 mmHg and a diastolic reduction of 7.2 mmHg, which was greater than the reduction observed in the group that only received antihypertensive treatment. Additionally, the quality of life scores were higher in the group that listened to the Qur’an, although the results were not statistically significant (p > 0.05).
