Kamila, Rahmah Soraya (2025) The Development of Gerund Learning Media Using Scramble Game for Female Students at Gontor for Girls 1st Campus. S1 Undergraduate thesis, Universitas Darussalam Gontor.
Abstract
The development of technology and globalisation increases the need for mastery of the English language, including understanding grammar which plays an important role in oral and written communication. One aspect of grammar that needs to be mastered is gerunds, which are verbs that function as nouns. A lack of understanding of gerunds can lead to misunderstandings in English. Based on EF EPI 2023 data, Indonesia ranks 79 out of 113 countries in the English proficiency index, indicating the low English proficiency of Indonesians. One of the contributing factors is the lack of practice and low motivation of learners. An interview with the grammar teacher at Gontor For Girls 1st campus revealed that students have difficulty in placing gerunds in sentences and lose motivation in learning. This research aims to develop interactive learning media using Scramble Game. In addition, sentence construction games such as scramble games can train syntax skills. Researchers used the Mechanics-Dynamicd-Aesthetics (MDA) Framework method as a game development method that is useful in the process of analysing educational games and designing them so that the elements in the game can be neatly arranged. The results of functionality testing using black boxes show that all features function properly. Testing of design, writing, and programming aspects from media experts obtained a percentage of 77.65%, while testing of material by material experts reached 80%. In addition, user testing showed a satisfaction level of 89.77%. Based on the results of the trial, it can be concluded that the learning media designed has a good category, and is expected to support gerund learning at Gontor For Girls 1st Campus.
